South Water Syndicate
Country:
Luxembourg
Summary:
Water protection measures were implemented in 2002 with farmers on a voluntary basis (implementation of CAP programs like reduced use of N fertilizer). In 2014 due to findings of metabolites of pesticides (metazachlor ESA) above the drinking water limit (0,1µg/l) and the need of an exemption according to the drinking water regulation the operation was focused on reduced use/alternative to pesticides. Since 2008, the regulation process of safeguard zones is ongoing. The safeguard regulation contains a number of compulsory and voluntary measures.
The operation area includes 60 drinking water catchments (springs) located along the river Eisch, as well as 3 wells.
